KALE İÇİ RECLAIMS ITS HISTORICAL IDENTITY

-METROPOLITAN MUNICIPALITY GAVE A MORE AESTHETIC APPEARANCE TO ANKARA CASTLE STARTING FROM HİSARPARK STREET, RENOVATED 26 HISTORICAL HOUSES AT KALE İÇİ AND COMPLETELY RENEWED CASTLE INFRASTRUCTURE IN THE FIRST STAGE.


kaleici330.jpgMetropolitan Municipality started Historical City Center Renewal Area Project at Ulus, and continuing restoration and street regulations at Ankara Castle which has the quality of an “outdoor museum” in 5 Stages.

Metropolitan Municipality completed the road refining and superstructure studies on the route starting from Hisarpark which is the Castle climbing route for tourist groups as well as renovation of 26 houses in the 1st stage at the initial attraction point of tourists referred as “Outer Castle”. 


A MAGNIFICENT TRAVEL IN THE HISTORY

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality developed many projects in order to bring out lost history of Ankara, and renovated Hisarpark Street and facades of the buildings in the area, restoring the appearance in 1920’s at Ankara Castle, which constituted an important stage of “travel in the history” project started in Ulus.

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality renovated the road from Ulus to Anatolian Civilizations Museum and completed infrastructure and superstructure works in a short period of time, and gave an aesthetic appearance to Hisarpark Street by laying paving stone as part of the renovation.


270 BUILDINGS ARE INCLUDED IN RESTORATION STUDIES IN THE 5TH STAGE

Ankara Metropolitan Municipality started 5 stages restoration project at Ankara Castle. Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Melih Gökçek said building restorations within the scope of Ankara Castle “Outer Castle” Street Improvement Project Works Stage 1 was accomplished.

Mayor Gökçek stated that restoration project for 123 buildings at “Outer Castle” and 147 buildings at “Inner Castle”, total of 270 buildings at Ankara Castle project area is being implemented in stages and stated “Project studies supported by Ankara Governorate still continue in 5 stages. Total of 270 buildings are being restored. 1st, 2nd and 3rd Stages of this 5 stages project is approved by Preservation Committees. Thus, the 1st stage is contracted and restoration of 26 buildings are completed in practice. Restoration project for 2nd and 3rd Stages are approved and proceeded to implementation. 4th and 5th Stages are still being discussed at Street Improvement Project Preservation Committee”.

 

A TOURISM INFORMATION OFFICE WILL BE ESTABLISHED

Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Melih Gökçek reported construction of Tourism Information Office and public toilets on a land of Metropolitan Municipality as part of Stage 1. Mayor Gökçek explained that Tourism Information Office project is approved, and it will meet information and consulting needs of tourist on a large scale, and the construction works will start after completion of feasibility studies. 

Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Melih Gökçek stated that Ramazan Şemseddin Mosque owned by District Directorate of Foundations is completely renovated as part of street improvement studies.

 Mayor Gökçek said project for transformation of Fire Station Point at Kale İçi owned by Ankara Metropolitan Municipality to a museum is approved and it is now at implementation stage, and it will become a part of Castle Tourism as a museum. 


ASKİ COMPLETED INFRASTRUCTURE

Mayor Melih Gökçek emphasizes that the major infrastructure problems were solved by restoration and improvement studies executed at Ankara Castle and said “ASKİ completely renewed fresh water, rain water and sewage infrastructures and natural gas, electric and telephone lines are being moved underground by relevant institutions in stage”.

Mayor Gökçek noted that all excavation works as part of infrastructure studies at Kale İçi are conducted under supervision of archeologists from Anatolian Civilizations Museum Directorate. Mayor Gökçek emphasized the difficulty of working inside the Castle and mentioned that heavy equipment cannot go into application areas, thus majority of the restoration project is handcrafted. Ankara Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Melih Gökçek spoke “Materials are hand carried to most houses in restoration project and yet the works slowed down, however we achieved nice results despite of the difficulties, everything is for Ankara”.
