General Information: Ataturk Forest Farm has been established by the instruction which was given by Ataturk in 1925 to build an independent modern farm in Ankara.
After forming the independence in Turkey, he stated the priority for the agriculture as “The basic of the national economy is agriculture. Therefore, we have to give importance to the development in the agriculture. The plans and practical studies which range even to the villages will expedite to achieve that goal. But, in order to achieve such vital work successfully, first it is required to implement an agricultural policy basing on the serious surveys and to establish an agricultural regime which can be easily comprehended and willingly implemented by the entire citizens.” He leaded for the establishment of Ataturk Forest Farm by stating that “The eyes which do not see the green are deprived of color pleasure. Afforest here too much so as to enable the blind person to be aware of the grass.” Besides, it is also important to create a place, natural beauty where the Ankara people which is the new capital city of a country settled along the desert area can roam easily, breath, and stay both in summer and winter. He called the well-known agriculturists of the country to the Cankaya Palace and mentioned his desire to establish a modern farm around Ankara and instructed them to find a land which is suitable for such purpose. |
